Allentown School District will be holding Kindergarten Registration on April 28, 29, 30, & May 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.  Please visit or call your neighborhood elementary school to schedule an appointment for your child, who must be present.  Children 5 years old on or before September 30, 2008 are eligible.


The public is invited to an Act 34 public hearing on the Jackson Elementary School facility plan on May 21 at 7pm. The school is located at 517 North 15th Street.

Mark your calendars: ASD 2008 Graduations will be held on Sunday, June 15th at the Stabler Athletic and Convocation Center of Lehigh University.  William Allen will begin at 2:30pm and Dieruff at 7:00pm.

William Allen High School  Basket Bingo will be held on May 9.  Doors open at 5:30pm, Bingo starts at 7:00pm; $20.00 tickets 20 games including 3 specials. Δ Applications for the Allen Memorial Awards and Scholarships are now available in the guidance office.  Please see Mr. Steidel if you are interested; deadline for returning applications id May 9. Δ Girls Intramural Tennis will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning May 12 at Muhlenberg College from 3:34-5:15pm. Δ Touchdown club meeting will be held on May 13 at 7:00pm in the student center. Δ  Cheerleading Tryouts for the 2008-2009 school year will be held in the gym from 3:30-6:00pm on May 13, 14, 15 & 16.  There will be NO tryouts in November next year.  If you are interested, please sign up in the athletic office and pick-up an informational handout. Δ AP Exams will be given from May 5-16 to grades 10-12. Δ Prom tickets are now on sale in room 8.  You may purchase prom tickets before school, during periods 5 & 6, and after school until 3:30pm.  Please refer to the blue flyer you received in English class for information on ticket prices and seating.  Ticket sales will end May 16.  Δ The WAHS Spring Choral Performance is May 16 at 7:00pm in the auditorium. Tickets are $5.00/person at the door. Δ  The Allentown Academy of the Arts 13th Gala will take place on May 18th featuring the 50th annual William Allen Art Exhibit Cre“ACT”ivity.  The day will also include an alumni art exhibit and sale and performances by Academy actors, dancers and musicians.  The exhibit and performances will be from 1:00-4:00pm, an award ceremony will be held at 3:30pm. Δ The Key Club is sponsoring a girl’s flag football game.  Students interested in playing in a flag football game can sign up in the main office.  The money from ticket sales will go to support March of Dimes. Δ The William Rotary/Interact Club meets each Thursday in Room 210A at 3:15pm.  Join this club to help your community, meet local business leaders and have fun. 

 

Louis E. Dieruff High School    Senior Class dues are being collected on Wed. & Thurs. mornings in the Commons Hallway until further notice. Δ  The DHS Spring Concert with band and chorus is scheduled for May 15 at 7pm.  Δ Planning for the Husky Carnival & Block Party has started; it will be held on Fri. May 16, 3:30-9:00pm.  Δ The annual Kiska Banquet will be held on May 20 at the Sheraton Jetport on Airport Road in Allentown. Δ A trip to New York City to see the Tony award-winning musical, Curtains, will be held on May 28; deadline to sign up is ASAP; cost is $100.00 (bus and show); a $25.00 deposit will hold your seat.  Please see Mr. DiSimoni for more information or contact him at 484-765-5630. Δ Sophomores are sponsoring the First Annual Bump and Dink Volleyball Tournament to be held on May 31 in the gym, cost $35.00/team.    

 

Harrison-Morton Middle School    4Sight testing will be held on May 12 & 13 for all 6, 7, & 8 graders. Δ  6th grade Bike and Boat trips with Wildlands Conservancy will be held from May 13-15 and May 20-22 during the school day. Δ Jazz Ensemble performance at Brookside Country Club will be held on May 14 by invitation only. Δ  5th graders will visit Harrison-Morton on May 15. Δ The Chess Tournament will be held on May 15. Δ Edgar Allen Poe’s Birthday Bash will be held on May 16 and hosted by 8th grade English students during school day in HMMS gym.  Δ On May 20 7th grade house 2 will go on a field trip to bowling alley during the school day. Δ PTO meeting will be held on May 20 at 6:30pm in room 102. Δ Band and Chorus field trip will be held on May 28 to Hershey Park from 8:00am to 5:00pm.   

 

Francis D. Raub Middle School  will hold its spring concert on May 21st at 6:30pm. Δ Raub thespians will present "A Place Called Home" on May 30-31 at 7pm and June 1 at 4pm. Theatre tix $4/apiece. Show and dinner tix $7/person.

 

South Mountain Middle School   will present “Bye, Bye Birdie” on May 9 and 10 at 7pm in the Bruce E. Hutchison Theatre. Tickets $10.00/person.

 

Trexler Middle School  On May 9 there will be a celebration for 3rd rating period Honor Roll students at the Rose Bowl from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Δ A PTA Meeting will be held on May 14 at 7:00pm in the library. Δ  4th Rating period progress reports will be distributed on May 14.  Δ ASD Middle School Swim Championships will be held on May 17 at 9:00am at Allen High School. Δ 5th grade students will visit Trexler Middle School on May 21 at 9:30 a.m. Δ The Trexler Bulldog All-Sports Banquet will be held on May 22 at 6:00pm in the cafeteria.

Dodd Elementary School   Dodd Diversity Day will be held on May 9 and parents and friends are invited to join Dodd students and staff in celebrating the varieties of cultures in our school community.  Each grade will be sharing special activities and knowledge during these designated times:  AM K - 10:10-10:45am; PM K – 2:00-2:30pm; grade 1 – 12:45-1:45pm; grade 2 – 12:00-1:00pm; grade 3 – 9:00-10:00am; grade 4 – 10:15-11:15am; grade 5 – 9:30-10:30am.  On May 16 a 1st grade field trip to Wildlife Conservancy will be held.  Students leave Dodd at 9:00am and return 1:30pm.  On May 20 Dodd’s Family Picnic will be held.  Parents and guardians are invited to bring lunch and meet their children for a picnic lunch.  Lunch times are:  grade 1: 10:45-11:15am; grade 2:  11:20-11:50am; grade 3: 11:55-12:25pm; grade 4: 12:30-1:00pm; grade 5:  1:05-1:35pm.  Please meet your children on the lawn next to the school playground. 

 

Jackson Elementary School   Mother’s Day Breakfast/Planetarium Presentation is scheduled for May 9 for 5th grade students from 12:30-1:30pm.  4Sight Testing will be held from May 12-16.  Picture Day will be held on May 13 for 2nd grade only.  5th grade visitation to Raub will be held on May 15 at 9:00am.  Jackson Night will be held on May 15 at Chucky Cheese from 3:30-9:00pm.  A mock Congressional Hearing will be held on May 16. On May 16, AM K and 1st grade field trip to Scottish Rites Cathedral for Beauty and the Beast.  5th & 4th grade trip to Barnes and Noble will be held on May 20.  On May 21 5th grade visitation to Trexler MS at 9:00am.  A trip to Barnes and Noble will be held on May 21 for grades 1, 2 & 3.

Lehigh Parkway Elementary School  Kindergarten Registration will be held on May 9.  Lehigh Valley Hospital will present a sleep program for 2nd grade on May 14 at 11:45am & 12:45pm in individual classrooms.  Parky’s Play Day will be held on May 16 for all students outside, weather permitting.  On May 19 all students in grades 1-5 who have read 25 or more books this year will be treated to a trip to Barnes & Noble.  Grade 5 will visit South Mountain Middle School on May 21 from 10:45am – 12:30pm.  On May 23 4th grade will take their field trip to Lancaster.  On May 30, Grade 5 travels to NYC to see “Mary Poppins.”

Midway Manor Early Childhood Center  Field Day will be held on May 13 at Midway Manor Park with Lincoln Early Childhood Center.  Students will take part in a variety of movement activities; this is not a parent partnership event.  1-2-3 Magic! Parent Workshop will be held on May 21 from 6:00-7:30pm at MMECC.

Muhlenberg Elementary School 4Sight testing will be held on May 12.  Learning Zone will be held on May 13 & 14 (14th last day).  MPTA general meeting will be held on May 13 at 6:30pm; elections & volunteer thank you.  Owlympics will be held on May 13 for grades 4 & 5.  Spring Concert will be held on May 14 at 6:30pm.  Mock Trials for grade 5 will be held on May 15 at 1:30pm.  Owlympics will be held on May 15 for grades 2 & 3; May 16 for Kindergarten and first  grades.  5th graders will visit Trexler & South Mountain Middle School on May 21.  On May 21 1st & 3rd graders to see Play.  On May 22, 2nd graders to see Play.  RIF # 3 will be held on May 23. 

 

Ritter Elementary School  There will be a 5th grade field trip to the Heritage Museum on May 12 from 9:00am-1:15pm.  4Sight testing will be held May 13-15.  4th grade Junior Achievement visitors will be in the gym from 8:30-11:30 am on May 13.  2nd grade will take a field trip to the Lehigh Valley Zoo on May 14 from 8:30am-1:00pm.  On May 14 5th grade Safety Patrols will have a roller skating reward field trip at Skateaway in Whitehall, PA from 9:00am-1:00pm.  The PTG will meet May 14 at 6:00pm in the cafeteria to prepare for Family Fun Night.  5th grade visitation to Harrison Morton Middle School will take place on May 15 from 8:45-11:15am. The technology showcase originally planned for May 15 has been rescheduled; more details to follow.  On May 19 4th grade will take a field trip to Lost River Caverns from 9:30am-1:30pm.  Ritter students in grades 1-5 will attend the Spring Concert on May 20 in the Dieruff auditorium at 7:00pm.  The Open the Door to Literacy spring reading picnic will take place on May 23 on the playground beginning at 9:00am.

 

Roosevelt Elementary School  Coffee in the Courtyard is scheduled Fridays for parents & guardians from 7:30-8:15am.  Muffins for Moms will be held on May 9 from 7:30-8:30am. Learning Zone will be held on May 13 & 14 for grades 1 & 2 from 2:40-3:15pm.  Book Blast will be held on May 15 from 6:00-7:00pm.  A 2nd grade field trip to Beauty & the Beast will be held on May 16 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. 

 

Sheridan Elementary School   Adult literacy classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7:00-9:00pm at the Sheridan Faculty Room.  Make Your Mark – academic program through the Boys’ and Girls’ Club sponsored by United Way from 2:45-4:15pm every Tuesday and Thursday.  Learning Zone will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:45-3:15pm.  EAP and Reach academic program will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:45-4:15pm.  The 4th grade picnic is scheduled for May 16 all day at Catasauqua Park. 

 

Union Terrace Elementary School    The Palisades School District Pen Pal visit to UT will be held on May 9 from 9:00am – 2:00pm.  A PTA meeting will be held on May 13 at 3:00pm in the library.  Field Day at UT will be held on May 16 from 8:30am – 2:00pm. The UT School Musical – “Seussical Jr.” –will be held from May 20-22 in the gym at 7:00pm. 

 

Washington Elementary School  Washington Field Day will be held on May 9 for all grades at Jordan Park beginning at 9:00am until about 1:00pm.  Travels to Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown will be held on May 15 for grade 5 – room 113; arrival there 11:00am and departure from there 1:30pm.  An Awards Assembly will be held on May 16 for grades 3, 4, & 5 at 8:30am; grades 1 & 2 at 9:30am in the gym.
