How does IST work and who is on
the team?
The IST process involves three
steps:
1.
Identifying a student's needs for academic or behavioral support;
2.
Determining the strategies needed to assist the student;
3.
Implementing intervention strategies through a continuum of services
Phases in the IST Process
Request for Assistance form
Entry (10 days)
Student records, work samples,
inventories, observations, parent notification
Hypothesis Forming (10 days)
Assessment checklist,
reading/math/ESOL CBA, Teacher Interview,
Student Interview, Health
Screening, Speech and Language Assessment
Verifying (30 days)
Parent Attendance, Teacher
Attendance, Review Findings and Write "Action Plan"
Implement "Action
Plan", Monitor Progress
Outcome (10 days)
Review Progress, Plan for
fading of support,
If needed: Recycle for an
additional 60 days, refer to MDE
Outcome Notification to Parent
and Teacher
Decisions are made
throughout the process?

Building principal, support
teacher, referring teacher, parent(s), school counselor,
School psychologist, reading
consultant, ESOL teacher, special education teacher,
