ART
Mrs. Sousa, Teacher
During art classes, students are
introduced to many different cultures, artists, and styles of art. The
students also have the opportunity to work with a variety of materials including
clay, plaster, inks, paints, markers, and crayons just to name a few. The
focus of the lessons is to develop each child's creativity, to enhance eye/hand
coordination, and to spark an interest in the arts. Each lesson also
incorporates the National Visual Arts Standards.

Special Activities
During the fall, Fourth Grade
classes have the wonderful opportunity to go to the Allentown Art Museum to
participate in the Discovery Arts program. At each visit, they are
introduced to a different facet of the museum and create an art project based on
their discoveries and information gathered.
In the spring, scholarships to
the Baum School of Art are available to students in the third, fourth, or fifth
grades. Mrs. Sousa is looking for students who show an interest in art,
put forth good effort in art class, complete classwork and homework assignments
for their teachers, and display positive behavior. Keep your ears open
for more information given during art class!

Student Artwork on Display
Student artwork is on display
throughout the school year on bulletin boards throughout the building. A district-wide elementary school art show takes place in the
spring at the Allentown Public Library. All are welcome to attend and view
the excellent display of talent our students possess.
Throughout the school year,
opportunities arise for students to have artwork submitted for various contests
and competitions. If a student's artwork is chosen, an information sheet
and permission slip will be sent home and must be included with each
submission. If the artwork was chosen as an award winner, a notification
letter will be sent home.

Coming Soon...
In the near future, students will be spending
part of their art class time on the computer researching art and artists,
participating in on-line art activities, and creating art. Until that
opportunity arrives, listed below are links to some exciting on-line art
activities. Have Fun!
