  FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. How can my child get free or reduced price lunch?

Your student can receive free or reduced meals by completing a meal application.  Meal applications must be submitted each school year.  Meal Applications can be completed two ways:

By using the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Application for Social Services (COMPASS) website. COMPASS serves as a single access point for a variety of social service programs including adult health care coverage, food stamp benefits and cash assistance. COMPASS expedites the application process by allowing applicants to fill out and submit their application online.

OR

By completing a family meal application.  The family meal      application is available at your student's school or online at    http://www.allentownsd.org/ChildNutrition/SchMealApp.htm

 2.  Do you provide a snack for my child that is enrolled in an after-school        program?

All students participating in after-school programs are offered a snack at no cost.

The After-School Snack Program provides nutritious snacks for students participating in an after-school educational activity.  The snack consists of two (2) healthy components from a variety of food groups.  For example, a snack may consist of cheese and crackers and a fruit juice.  The snack is the best choice for students that are participating in a program lasting one (1) hour or less.

3.  How do I pay for my child’s meals?

Allentown School District, Child Nutrition Services provides an electronic meal account program that allows students and families to pre-pay for meals.  Students are encouraged to pre-pay for meals by submitting payments during breakfast or lunch to the cafeteria cashier.  In addition, your student can pay for his or her meals daily by giving payment to the cashier at meal time.
