The School Breakfast Program

Eating Breakfast Is a Smart Start to Everyday!

The School Breakfast Program (SBP) was established in 1966 to assist schools in serving breakfast as part of the school meal program.  Since this time, the School Breakfast Program has expanded tremendously.  School Breakfast is a nutritionally complete meal that consists of protein, grain, fruit, and milk.  Breakfast is available at no cost to all Allentown School District students.  Contact your school to find out what time breakfast is served at your student’s school.

National School Lunch Program

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted program operating in over 100,000 schools across the nation.  NSLP provides Allentown School District students with a nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunch each school day.  All school lunches meet recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which recommends that no more than 30 percent of an individual's calories come from fat, and less than 10 percent from saturated fat.  In addition, school lunch provides one-third of the Recommended Daily Allowances for protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, calcium, and calories.  Each lunch served contains protein, grain, vegetable and/or fruit, and milk.

After-School Snack Program

The After-School Snack Program provides nutritious snacks for students participating in an after-school educational activity.  The snack consists of two (2) healthy components from a variety of food groups.  For example, a snack may consist of cheese and crackers and a fruit juice.  The snack is the best choice for students that are participating in a program lasting one (1) hour or less.

Summer Feeding Program

The Summer Feeding Program aims to provide children with nutritious meals when school is not in session. On a typical summer day, the Allentown School District  Summer Feeding Program provides meals to summer school programs, summer enrichment programs, recreational programs, and summer day camps.
