Ritter School's knowledgeable staff is dedicated to the teaching and learning process. Teachers work daily to encourage students to do their very best. The Ritter community, which consists of business partners, volunteers, and various organizations throughout the Lehigh Valley, contributes to the success of Ritter Elementary School.
Ritter School is one of sixteen elementary schools located in the Allentown School District. The school was named in honor of Rittersville and Michael Ritter, an early settler, who welcomed its first pupils in 1925. The building, an outgrowth of a meeting between citizens and the school board, has two floors. In 1955, four classrooms and a cafeteria were added to accommodate the expanding pupil population.
In 2007-2008 two additional classrooms were added by converting existing space into classrooms.
The building contains an auditorium-gymnasium combination which seats five hundred fifty pupils. There are twenty- two classrooms with computers that are networked and have internet capabilities. Also, all teachers have access to a teacher work station. In addition, there is an ESL room and health room. The cafeteria can feed 150 pupils at one time. A large play area, grassy ball field, and a new play structure which was added in the spring of 2007 and the final new structure in the fall of 2008 to help meet the physical needs of our pupils.
Three portable classrooms to the rear of the school house our expanding enrollment. The professional staff of teachers is supplemented by a Reading Coach, Itinerant Gifted Teacher, Instructional Support Coach, Two Title I Support Teachers, 2 ESOL Teachers, 2 Learning Support Teachers, an Art, Music, Physical Education Teacher, Librarian, School Counselor, School Psychologist, Nurse, Health Room Assistance, Speech Pathologist and Dental Hygienist.
