Debate Team

Room 320, Thursdays from 3:15-4:00p.m. Regular meetings begin September 23.

The Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Academic Conference has resolved that
"No juvenile in a United States court of law should ever be tried as an adult."

Students wishing to sharpen their minds should prepare a 5-minute debate, defending or negating the resolve. Try-outs for Debate Team will be held September 14, 15, & 16. Sign up at the beginning of September in Room 320 for a time slot (15-minute increments, from 3:30p.m. to 6:30p.m. 

Suggestions for success:

• evidence of significant research: at least 4 sources cited, bibliography, and photocopied articles

• opening paragraphs: include terms and definitions

• 5-minute Q&A at end of presentation

Teams will be formed on Monday, September 20, from successful presenters. Competitions will be held:

02-08-05 Emmaus (semi-finals, finals)

The art of debate can be an invaluable tool for the student. Debate strengthens the foundations built in the classroom, and prepares the mind for competitive situations.

This year, an Allen freshman participated in the PA Science Fair, taking 1st place. Debate Team participation helped her enormously in the organization and presentation of her project.
