ASD middle school students enjoy Police Youth Academy
Some of Allentown Police Department’s finest will spent two weeks mentoring Allentown School District middle school students through APD’s Youth Police Academy. More than 20 students participated in the indoor/outdoor program where a variety of demonstrations and activities will be performed by multiple area law enforcement agencies from August 15 – 19. The following week, August 22 – 26, ASD students who participated in the 2015-2016 Youth Police Academy returned for another week to continue their learning experiences.
“Offering the Youth Academy for ASD middle school students is one of the many outreach efforts that APD hosts to engage our community’s youth,” explains Chief Keith Morris, Allentown Police Department. “We look forward to these programs where we have the opportunity to work one-on-one with these students and begin a mentorship that can make a difference in their lives.”
Participants in the Academy engaged in light physical exercise, participated in a variety of activities, and enjoyed breakfast and lunch.
The Allentown Police Youth Academy was held at Trexler Middle School, then on their last day, students participated in a special graduation event in City Council Chambers.
