Historical Fact: In the late 1800s and early
1900s, Mrs. Elsie Heckman, Marion Ruhe and Mary McDermott conducted a social
center at Sheridan school. This was the forerunner of the present day Boys' and
Girls' Clubs. During World War II, the Sheridan Library served as an induction
center for those entering the armed forces. The "new" Sheridan was officially
dedicated as Allentown's newest and most modern educational facility on Sunday,
November 16, 1986.
