PHILOSOPHY
The primary purpose of the athletic program at William Allen High School is to promote the physical, social, emotional, and moral well-being of our student-athletes. It is our goal that athletics at William Allen will be a positive force in preparing youth for an enriching and vital role in American life.

MEMBERSHIP
William Allen is a member of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and subscribes to the philosophy and intent of its by-laws. PIAA by-laws pertaining to age, awards, attendance, health, transfers and residence, participation, representation, curriculum and seasonal rules will be followed. Each coach is responsible to know the rules, inform team members and parents, and to enforce them.

William Allen is a member of the Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference (LVIAC), which consists of twelve schools from Lehigh and Northampton Counties.

GUIDELINES
ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY - To be eligible for interscholastic athletics, a student at William Allen must be passing four full credit subjects or their equivalent. When a student’s work in a preceding grading period does not meet this standard, the student shall be ineligible to participate in interscholastic athletics for at least fifteen school days of the next grading period.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE - A student must be in school by 11:35am in order to participate in an athletic contest/practice that day. Any student who is absent 20 or more days in a semester will be ineligible to participate in any athletic contest until that student attends 45 school days.

PRACTICES AND CONTESTS - Each member of any team is required to make a commitment to that sport during the season. Part of that commitment involves being at every scheduled practice and contest throughout the season. The majority of athletic teams at William Allen will practice or participate in contests on Saturdays.

TRAVEL - Athletes must travel to and from contests, away from William Allen, in transportation provided by the school. For the student to ride with parent/guardian, prior arrangements made in writing between the participant’s parent/guardian, athletic office, and coach needs to be secured.

PHYSICALS - Each student desiring to participate in an interscholastic sport will undergo a physical examination or reexamination by a school district physician or by another licensed physician prior to the commencement of practice for each sports season. Examinations will be provided by the district on specified dates and times three times annually, to accommodate students participating in Fall Sports, Winter Sports, and Spring Sports.

TOBACCO PRODUCTS - PIAA Board of Control policy and the Allentown School District prohibits the use of tobacco products by participating and non-participating team personnel, including coaches, during any level of interscholastic athletic competition.
