As we get ready to start the school year, we want to remind our families of our new partnership with Student Transportation of America (STA)! During the first week of school, we ask for your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Families with questions about bussing can contact the STA directly at 484-209-0898. 

Over the last two years, the Allentown School District's partnership with LANTA has provided safe and dependable transportation for thousands of Allentown middle and high school students.

Under the partnership, ASD middle and high school students are able to ride LANTA buses for free using their school ID. During the first week of school, students are not required to show ID while we wait for ID’s to be distributed to students. 

This fare-free access is only available to current ASD students and not transferable or extended to family members or other individuals.  In accordance with LANTA policy, riders under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. An adult riding with an ASD student under twelve(12) years old will not be allowed to ride for fare-free access unless that adult is also a current ASD student and has a current-year ASD ID.

The service provides added flexibility for students arriving early or late for school, remaining for after-school, activities and sports, returning for evening activities, or getting to and from work, cultural events, internships, and dual enrollment opportunities. As evidence of its success, in the current school year, the average school day ridership for Allentown School District students on LANTA is approximately 2,000, which is an increase of 600 students from the 2022-2023 school year.

The first day of school for students is Monday, August 26, 2024.

Elementary School

Elementary Students will begin their day at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. 

Middle School

Middle Schools: Begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:35 p.m. 

High School

William Allen & Dieruff High Schools:  
A Schedule (Period 1-7): Begins at 7:20 a.m. and ends at 1:50 p.m. 
B Schedule (Period 2-8): Begins at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. 

Building 21 High School:
Begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m.

Alternative Education (William Penn):
Begins 7:15 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m.

The District uses the K-12 Sapphire student information system and encourages families to access information via the Parent/Community Portal. Student grades, attendance records, and other important information is available through the Parent Portal.

• Click on the Community Portal; and select "Apply for a Sapphire Community Portal account." 
• When asked for keyword, type “paasd”
• Read the user agreement; check the “I have read and agree to the above policies” box, and click continue.
• Complete all information as requested.
• Pick your username and password; choose a sample security question and answer it and click Continue.
• You will receive an e-mail that your application will be reviewed. The approval process may take up to four business days.
• Once you receive your approval e-mail, you can sign onto the Sapphire Parent Portal system using your username and password.

Student schedules are now available in the Sapphire Parent/Community Portal. Throughout the year, student grades, attendance records, and other important information is available through the Parent Portal.

Supply lists vary by grade and by school, and can be obtained by contacting your child's school or teacher. 

Orientation is designed to support Allentown School District students entering kindergarten and grades six and nine by providing a smooth transition and reducing first-day anxiety. Orientation takes place on Thursday, August 22, 2024. All students in grades 6, 9 and kindergarten families are encouraged to attend.

At orientation, students in grades 6 and  9 and kindergarten students and families with the school environment and begin to build relationships in a smaller setting. 

On Thursday, August 22, 2024, we will invite families in at the following times: 

• Elementary School Kindergarten Students - 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
• Middle School Students in Grade 6 - 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
• High School Students in Grade 9 - 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Breakfast/Lunch:

• Elementary School Kindergarten Students - Breakfast: Juice & Nutrigrain Bar
• Middle Schools Students in grade 6 - Lunch
