Dieruff Practice Field Modernization Project

The Allentown School District is moving forward with a transformative project to modernize and enhance the Dieruff High School Practice Field. This investment reflects the District’s commitment to student wellness, athletics, and school pride. On November 20, 2025, the School Board of Directors approved the next phase of design and planning for the project.

Project Overview

The proposed improvements will revitalize the practice field located at 820 East Tilghman Street through a comprehensive redesign that supports student-athletes, staff, and the broader school community.

Planned Upgrades Include:

  • New field house
  • Improved weight room and restroom facilities
  • Portable bleachers
  • Upgraded field lighting
  • Soil rehabilitation
  • Synthetic turf field
  • New track with expanded track and field event capabilities

Superintendent Dr. Carol D. Birks emphasized the importance of the project for student development and achievement:

"Enhancements to our infrastructure represent an important step forward for our students, our athletic programs, and the entire Dieruff High School learning community. Research shows that students who participate in sports and extracurricular activities are more likely to attend school regularly, perform better academically, and be better prepared for success after graduation."

Next Steps

With initial approval secured, the District will proceed with:

  • Final design development
  • Bidding and procurement
  • Review of additional approvals in early 2026
