Statement on behalf of the Allentown School District: Luiz D. Garcia who was elected as Trustee-at-Large for Lehigh Carbon Community College.

June 9, 2020

The Allentown School District and the Board of Directors would like to congratulate Mr. Luiz D. Garcia who was elected as Trustee-at-Large for the Board of Trustees of Lehigh Carbon Community College.

“On behalf of the Allentown School District Board of Directors, we are thrilled to have Mr. Garcia join the LCCC Board,” said Superintendent Thomas Parker. “As a representative of our city and district, we know that Mr. Garcia will be a strong voice and advocate for our students, who take the first step in their post-graduate career at LCCC.”

Mr. Garcia is a graduate of William Allen High school and a dedicated member of the Allentown community. He currently serves as a detective for the Allentown Police Department and is active in the Youth Division, participating in elementary PAL basketball and the LIFE program at ASD middle schools.

“I have made it my mission to be as engaged as I can with our City and our School District to find solutions for our city and our youth,” said Garcia. “I am also a minority – LCCC with a minority student body of 40% is extremely encouraging moving forward. To be able to have a voice at the table is also tremendously important and one I take very seriously. Knowing and understanding the struggles of inner-city students’ whatever race, color, ethnicity, etc. is very important to the future of LCCC, ASD, our City, State, and Country.”

The ASD Board unanimously voted for Mr. Garcia whose term will run through June 30, 2026. The LCCC Board of Trustees is comprised of representatives from each of the college’s 13 sponsoring school districts and two at-large representatives.

“We look forward to Mr. Garcia representing our diverse student population on the LCCC Board of Directors,” said ASD Board President, Sara Jane Brace. “We know he will have the best interests of our students in mind when decisions are being made.”
