AllentownSchool District

Assessment Information

As the district prepares to safely allow students and staff into our buildings, small groups of students will be permitted back for state-mandated assessments, such as WIDA testing for English Learners. The district is required by the federal government to administer these tests in person.

The ESOL Department will schedule a testing date and time for each student. Testing will take place at the student’s home school, during a morning (9 AM - 12 PM) or an afternoon (1 PM - 4 PM) session, Monday - Friday.

All CDC & Department of Health guidelines will be followed including:

 - Limiting the number of students & staff who are in the classroom during testing. (no more than 15)

 - All desks in assessment rooms will be 6 feet apart

 - Students are required to wear masks when they enter the building and during testing. If a student does not have a mask, one will be provided.

 - Adult test proctors are also required to wear masks and other PPE while  administering the test

Students enter the building through one designated entrance near the testing rooms. Upon arrival, students register with adult staff on-site and are escorted to and from testing rooms. All laptops, headsets, desks, and chairs are cleaned before students arrive and again after testing is completed. Laptops will be provided in testing rooms - students may NOT bring their personal or ASD borrowed laptop to the building for assessments.

WIDA ACCESS is administered in Kindergarten through Grade 12 to students who have been identified as English Learners (ELs).  The district is required to administer the test annually to measure students' growth towards English Language Proficiency. WIDA  meets U.S. federal requirements in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for monitoring and reporting EL progress toward English language proficiency.  WIDA is aligned to PA English Language Development Standards. The test assesses all four language domains including Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. If your child has an IEP, appropriate accommodations will be provided during the assessment.

The WIDA ACCESS Assessments begin on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 and conclude on Friday, March 19, 2021. ELs will take the test for 2-4 days.  Students in high school, middle school, and elementary school will be scheduled during the following weeks.
 - Grades 9-12: January 19-February 19
 - Grades 6-8:  February 1-26
 - Grades K-5: March 1-19

The ESOL Department and school staff will contact all families to notify them about the date and time students will be scheduled to take WIDA Assessments.

ASD staff will ensure that students who participate in testing will be marked present for the day in Sapphire.
