Allentown School District Welcomes Two New Board Members

At a Special Board Meeting held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 the Allentown School District Board of Directors appointed Ms. Andrene Brown Nowell and Dr. Evelyn Santana to fill two vacant seats on the board.
The two appointees will be sworn in prior to the regularly scheduled Board Meeting Thursday, January 26, 2023, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Each will serve until the December 2023 Board Reorganization Meeting.
Ms. Andrene Brown Nowell is the Executive Director of the Fine Feather Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with at-risk children with a focus on mental health and healing through the arts. She also serves as CEO of Fine Fashion Kids, a children’s fashion company. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Ms. Brown Nowell is also a parent of Allentown School District students.
Dr. Evelyn Santana is the Executive Director of Partnership Sites and is a member of the President’s Cabinet at Harcum College. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in education/psychology from Cedar Crest College and is completing a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at Daniel Webster College. Dr. Santana is a graduate of William Allen High School and is an Allentown School District parent.
Prior to the January 12, 2023 School Board Meeting, the Board of Directors reviewed applications for eight candidates who met the requirements to fill the vacant seats. The eight candidates then took part in public interviews held at the Allentown School District Administration Center on January 12, 2023. These candidates were Ms. Andrene Brown, Mr. Louis Holzman, Ms. Karen Ocasio, Dr. Evelyn Santana, Ms. Shellie Santiago, Ms. Kiara Santos, Ms. Zaleeae Sierra and Ms. Ana Tiburcio.
Each candidate was interviewed for approximately 20 minutes and was asked an identical slate of questions. We thank each candidate for their time, dedication, and desire to serve as an Allentown School District Board Director. Per Pennsylvania School Code, the interviews were conducted publicly and were also live-streamed on the Allentown School District’s YouTube channel.
