On Thursday, April 23, 2026, the Allentown School District Board of Directors voted to appoint Ms. Nancy Wilt to fill the vacant seat on the board.
Ms. Nancy Wilt was sworn in immediately following the vote. She will serve in this position until the reorganization meeting in December 2027.
Nancy Wilt is a former Allentown School District Board Director who served from 2019 to 2023, including three years in Board leadership. A parent with three graduates, she has been deeply involved in the PTO/PTA and the Executive Board of the Allentown School District Foundation. Professionally, she works for State Representative Peter Schweyer (Education Chairman) and is the Chair of the Allentown Parks and Recreation Commission. She is seeking reappointment to leverage her existing knowledge of board governance and ongoing district projects.
“We are excited to welcome Ms. Wilt to the Allentown School Board,” said Andrene Brown-Nowell, Board President. “As a Board, we are confident that Ms. Wilt will bring unique perspectives and dedication to our students, strengthening our collective mission to provide a stable, encouraging, and high-quality educational environment.”
Prior to the April 23, 2026, School Board of Directors Board Meeting, the School Board Directors reviewed applications from four candidates. Each of the candidates participated in public interviews with the School Board of Directors that evening. The four candidates then participated in public interviews on April 23, 2026, before the Regular Board Meeting. These candidates were Yahaira Aviles, Juan DeLeon, Toni James, and Nancy Wilt.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to each of the candidates for the significant time, effort, and passion they dedicated to this selection process,” stated Dr. Carol D. Birks, Allentown School District Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer. “It is an honor to welcome Ms. Wilt back to the School Board of Directors. Her previous background in board governance, combined with her commitment to our community and leadership, will be invaluable as we continue to advance the work in our Strategic Plan.”
