Allentown, PA -- The Allentown School District is excited to announce the appointment of several key additions to our executive team, along with strategic internal promotions designed to strengthen instructional leadership, operational efficiency, and student support services. These appointments were approved by the School Board of Directors at its meeting held on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
"We are thrilled to welcome our new hires to our district team, while celebrating the well-deserved advancement of our internal employees into new leadership roles," said Mr. Herman James, Chief of Talent Management and Labor Relations. "Each brings a wealth of expertise, a track record of innovation, and a dedication to student success. Together, they will help us elevate our instructional programs, optimize our operations, and ensure every student in Allentown can be successful."

Ms. Jovan Moore, Executive Director of Instructional Leadership: Bringing 16 years of urban education experience, including nine years as a principal, Ms. Moore joins the District as Executive Director of Instructional Leadership. A former Leader Coach at the Philadelphia Academy of School Leaders and 2021 National Blue Ribbon School principal, Ms. Moore brings deep expertise in data-driven instructional coaching, equity-focused leadership, and academic achievement.
Dr. Patrick Osei, AICP, Executive Director of Facilities: Dr. Patrick Osei joins the district to lead facilities planning, space management, and capital infrastructure. Dr. Osei previously served as the Executive Director of Facilities Planning for the School District of Philadelphia, where he managed a portfolio of more than 350 facilities. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and brings extensive experience in capital planning, data management, and sustainable infrastructure.
Dr. Schalea Sanders, Executive Director of English Learner Services: Dr. Schalea Sanders joins the district in the role of Executive Director of English Learner Services. With over 15 years of leadership in multilingual learner initiatives, bilingual immersion, and compliance, Dr. Sanders previously served as a Multilingual Learners Research Specialist and Supervisor for the State of Delaware, earning statewide recognition for gains in ACCESS scores and English learner achievement.
Mr. Arcelius Brickhouse, Executive Director of Student Services: Mr. Brickhouse is a skilled administrator with experience in school leadership and operations management, who most recently served as an Executive Director of Instructional Leadership. He has been with the District since June 2024.
Mr. Kyle Kauffman has been promoted from Director of Innovation & Instructional Technology to Executive Director of Strategic Innovation & Digital Transformation. Mr. Kauffman first joined the District in August 2022 as the Director of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), bringing a strong background in science education and innovation.
Ms. Janae Matos steps up from Assistant Director of Facilities to Acting Director of Facilities. Ms. Matos began her career in the Allentown School District in 2015 and has served in a variety of roles in the Facilities Department and in the classroom.
Ms. Becky Schanely transitions from Dean of Students to Assistant Principal at Union Terrace Elementary School. Ms. Scanely has been a part of Allentown School District for the last 12 years as an elementary classroom teacher and math intervention specialist.
