Allentown School District Celebrates Promotions & New Staffing Appointments

Allentown, PA – September 18, 2025– At its Regular School Board of Directors Meeting held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Allentown School District School Board of Directors approved the promotion and new hires to fill key vacancies. These additions reflect the District’s continued commitment to strengthening operational excellence, instructional leadership, and student success as outlined in our Strategic Plan, Lighting the Way: A Blueprint for Innovation and Excellence 2030.

“As we begin this school year, we are proud to welcome new leaders and elevate a number of talented staff members from within our organization,” said Mr. Herman James, Chief of Talent Management & Labor Relations. “Each of these individuals brings expertise, dedication, and vision to their roles, ensuring that we continue to build a strong foundation for academic achievement, innovation, and student support across the District.”

We extend a heartfelt congratulations to the following members of our team: 

  • Carlos D. Reyes has been appointed Acting Executive Director of Instructional Leadership. Reyes previously served as Director of Investigative Services & Labor Relations and brings extensive administrative leadership and operational experience to his new role. 
  • Crystal Perez has been promoted to Director of Health Services. Perez previously served as Assistant Director of Health Services and school nurse for many years. She brings deep expertise in student wellness, immunization, and school-based health services.
  • Marie Yvrose Augustin will join ASD as Director of Grant Accounting. Augustin is a finance executive with more than two decades of experience in grants management, nonprofit finance, and compliance, most recently serving as Chief Financial Officer for HOPES CAP, Inc. She brings expertise in federal and state grant oversight, organizational systems, and financial strategy.
  • Eric Rosa has been appointed Director of Safety & Security. Rosa brings more than 20 years of experience in school safety, most recently as Executive Director of School Safety for the School District of Philadelphia. He has led districtwide safety operations, crisis response, restorative programs, and major technology upgrades.
  • Ari Segarra-Polek has been promoted to Assistant Manager of Purchasing. Segarra-Polek has served as Logistics & Inventory Specialist in ASD, where she streamlined procurement processes and strengthened vendor relations.
  • Jamie Yarish has been named Payroll Supervisor. Yarish has more than eight years of experience in payroll management, accounting, and compliance, most recently with Panther Valley School District.

At the School level, Brighid McDonnell has been named Acting Principal of Union Terrace Elementary School after serving as Acting Assistant Principal. McDonnell will continue her work to foster a welcoming, student-centered learning environment for the Union Terrace community. Jerry Solano will join the leadership team at Louis E. Dieruff High School as Assistant Principal. Solano previously served as a Behavior Management Specialist and Teacher in the District, and brings a strong commitment to fostering a positive school culture. 

To bolster the Information Technology department, we welcome Eduardo Guzman Merida as a Network Engineer and Bobby Rutherford as an Audio/ Visual Engineer

Irakli Matcharashvili will serve as the District’s Strategic Data Fellow. Matcharashvili will play a key role in advancing data-driven decision-making, analysis, and reporting in alignment with the District’s strategic plan.

In addition to these leadership appointments, the District proudly welcomes 44  new teachers and 36 paraprofessionals. Through the focused efforts of our Talent Management Team, this means 98% of classroom teacher positions are filled across the District, maintaining one of the strongest staffing rates in recent years.
