Allentown School District Launches Elementary Athletic League

Allentown School District Launches Elementary Athletic League

Allentown, PA – October 29, 2025 – The Allentown School District is proud to announce the launch of the Allentown School District’s Elementary Athletic League, an exciting initiative designed to promote sportsmanship and teamwork by developing fundamental skills in our young student-athletes and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

Students in Grades 3 through 5 will be able to participate in structured athletic programs representing their schools. During the 2025-2026 academic school year, the league will kick off with a basketball season in November and a soccer season in March.

The Elementary Athletic League will continue to reflect the District’s ongoing commitment to supporting the whole child; fostering not only academic growth but also physical wellness, leadership, and community connection. By engaging our students in these offerings at an earlier age, we aim to cultivate a sense of pride, teach lifelong fitness practices, and expand access to opportunities for all students.

“By launching the Elementary Athletic League, we are investing in our students’ futures, on and off the court,”  said Dr. Carol D. Birks, Superintendent & Chief Executive Officer, Allentown School District. “We want to provide our students the opportunity to feel the pride of representing their school, learn teamwork and perseverance early, and build lifelong habits of health and leadership.”

The mission of the Allentown School District is to serve the diverse educational needs of each student by igniting their passion for learning by creating an academic culture. We are deeply grateful for the generous support of the District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan, whose monetary contribution is helping us bring this mission to life. Their partnership expands access to athletic opportunities for our students, opening doors to experiences that foster improved physical and mental health, social inclusion, and personal growth.

If you are interested in supporting these programs, limited coaching positions for soccer and basketball are still available. Interested applicants can apply for the positions via Frontline. These opportunities are open to all staff at any school.

Families with students in grades 3-5 can sign up here.
