Lehigh Parkway Elementary Crowned Champion of the First In Math Love Math Challenge

Lehigh Parkway Elementary Crowned Champion of the First In Math Love Math Challenge

Allentown, PA — The Allentown School District is celebrating a monumental academic accomplishment as students across the district came together to solve an astounding 1,011,375 math problems in just 20 days during the 2025 First In Math Love Math Challenge.

First In Math is a digital fluency tool for grades K through 8 that helps students build problem-solving skills and confidence in math through engaging, game-based activities. It supports skill development and independent learning in a fun, motivating way.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of students, educators, and families—and the support of Honorary Chairs Senator Nick Miller and Representative Peter Schweyer—the district soared to new heights, averaging:

  • 354,981 math problems per week
  • 50,569 per day
  • 5,057 per hour
  • 84 per minute

Lehigh Parkway Elementary School emerged as the district champion, solving an impressive 173,784 problems during the challenge. With only 278 K–5 students, this equals:

  • 60,824 per week
  • 8,689 per day
  • 869 per hour
  • 14 per minute
  • An incredible 625 problems per student!

“As someone who taught math years ago, I know it can be fun.  And the students across the Allentown School District proved me right, breaking the all-time record for math equations solved in First in Math with a whopping 1,011,375 problems solved!  This is no small feat, and I am proud of our students and want to congratulate Lehigh Parkway Elementary School for leading the way through the whole competition,” said state Rep. Peter Schweyer, D-Lehigh.

“As a dedicated advocate for public education, I congratulate the accomplishments of the Allentown elementary students in the Love Math Challenge, presented by First in Math, said Senator Miller. “These dedicated students achieved a historic milestone by solving more than one million math problems in just 20 days. Having served on the Allentown School Board, I recognize that challenges like this would not be possible without the commitment of staff and families, who inspire students to reach their fullest potential. This achievement underscores the importance of investing in students and providing them with opportunities to thrive through various methods of learning, including game-based learning technologies.”

Students from Lehigh Parkway alone solved more than 173,000 problems, while Ramos Elementary, Central Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, and Hiram W. Dodd Elementary School, each completed more than 70,000 math problems. Congratulations to Lehigh Parkway for their impressive victory, and to all the participating students of the Love Math Challenge!

The First In Math Love Math Challenge continues to inspire academic excellence through engaging, high-impact learning experiences. Congratulations to Lehigh Parkway Elementary and the entire Allentown Public Schools community for proving what’s possible—one problem at a time.
