Allentown, PA — The Allentown School District is proud to announce that the softball field at William Allen High School will be officially renamed the Ed Stinner Softball Field, honoring a beloved educator, coach, and community leader whose legacy has shaped generations of student‑athletes.

At its Thursday, February 26, 2026, Regular School Board of Directors Meeting, the Allentown School District approved the renaming following a recommendation from the Naming/Renaming Committee and widespread community support. More than 300 nominations were submitted, with an overwhelming majority recognizing Mr. Ed Stinner for his unwavering commitment to students, athletics, and the City of Allentown.

Mr. Stinner served the Allentown School District for more than 20 years as a teacher, administrator, and coach. Under his leadership, the Lady Canary softball team achieved notable successes, including a PIAA State Championship in 1990, a District XI Title in 1991, and an EPC League Championship in 1992. He was known for his competitive excellence, mentorship, and personal investment in the lives of the young people he coached.

“We are honored to celebrate Coach Stinner’s lasting impact on our schools and community,” said Dr. Alica Knauff, Acting Principal of William Allen High School.  “His dedication to excellence, character development, and student success reflects the very best of Canary Nation and the Allentown School District.”

The official dedication ceremony for Ed Stinner Softball Field will be announced in the coming weeks, with opportunities for students, families, alumni, and community members to participate in honoring Coach Stinner’s legacy.
