Translation & Interpretation Service Requests

When a non-English speaking, bilingual/ multilingual guardian, parent, or family enters a District building or school to request services, the District is responsible for providing translation services in the guardian, parent, or family’s preferred language of communication.

The District strives to offer basic interpretation skills to support families and educators with spontaneous or informal interactions such as primary office inquiries, registration, bus transportation, and straightforward communication.

  • Tier 1: District and school leaders will document names, translation languages, and availability of on-site staff interpreters (during and after school hours) for last-minute, spontaneous, or emergency sessions and pre-planned, scheduled sessions.
  • Tier 2: The District provides professional interpretation skills to support families and educators during meetings requiring consecutive interpretation and sight-reading skills without a legal context: parent-teacher conferences, student support team meetings, and attendance meetings.
  • Tier 3: The District provides advanced and professional interpretation skills to support families and educators in special education meetings, disciplinary hearings, meetings with a legal context, and other meetings.
