Allentown School District's Special Education provides programming that meets the needs of every eligible student. Special Education ensures equitable access to flexible programming, a tiered system of supports, transition planning, and meaningful family engagement. These program components are facilitated by high-quality staff focused on preparing all students for valuable post-secondary experiences.
The Allentown School District strives to build special programs specifically tailored to the assessed needs of a student and attempts to deliver those programs in the regular education environment whenever possible and appropriate. The District offers a continuum of services to allow for more independent functioning on the part of the students as they progress through the grades.
The District is committed to working with parents to design the program alternative that most appropriately meets the individual needs of students. All Allentown School District special education programs and services are in compliance with state and federal laws governing this area.
The District operates a majority of the programs for its students with special needs. Some students will participate in programs operated by the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit along with other nearby programs.
