Climate and Culture

The Allentown School District is committed to creating spaces where everyone feels safe, valued, empowered, and loved.

Each year our schools participate in the Pennsylvania School Climate Survey.  The survey measures the following domains: student support, social and emotional learning, and a safe and respectful climate.  The survey is completed by students, staff, families, and community members.  Your input is important.  Please be sure to complete the survey when provided.

Social-Emotional Wellness

The Allentown School District supports the growth of emotional intelligence in our students. Social and Emotional Learning is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.  SEL fosters skills that enable our students to be effective leaders in a growing and changing world.

The competencies of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making are taught through a variety of lessons and activities.  Our Middle Schools will pilot the 7 Mindsets digital program to access activities aimed at growing skills and relationships within our students. 

Restorative Practices 

Restorative Practices aim to strengthen relationships between individuals and social connections within our community.  Restorative Practices also focus on restoring harm when it occurs.  Allentown School District staff are trained in the art of doing things “with” rather than “to” or “for” our students and families.  We encourage student, family, and community voices through the practice of circles and restorative questions. 

Bullying Prevention 

Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself.  While not all situations rise to the definition of bullying it is still important that your child tell an adult at home and an adult at school as soon as the behavior occurs. 

The Allentown School District uses the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. This research-based program reduces bullying in schools. It also helps to make school a safer, more positive place where students can learn. Bullying Report Form - download, complete, sign, and deliver this form to the school administrator if you believe your child is experiencing bullying. 

Our Anti-Bullying Rules

  1. We will not bully others.

  2. We will try to help students who are bullied.

  3. We will try to include students who are left out.

  4. If we know that somebody is being bullied we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.
