Student and Family Handbook

Handbook Cover

The Student and Family Handbook is adopted by the Allentown School District Board of School Directors every year to help create a safe and orderly academic environment where students can receive, and District personnel can deliver, a balanced education without disruption or interference.

The Handbook reviews responsible behavior by students, District personnel, parents and guardians, and other visitors.

This official Student and Family Handbook of the Allentown School District provides every
student with an overview of key policies and sets the boundaries to establish a safe and
nurturing learning environment for all students.

Each student is asked to use this guide in a way that will reflect our core values of excellence, partnership, and equity. Families are asked to review this handbook with their child, then sign and return the Parent/Guardian Pledge Form to your school. The form can be found on page 36 of this booklet or in your school’s main office and online.

We know that the last school year was unlike any other. As we look to return to school this fall, we must work together as a community to create a safe and healthy learning environment for all. In addition to the guidance in this handbook, the district will follow a Health & Safety Plan as it relates to COVID-19.

Below you will find information on adjustments made to the 2020-2021 Handbook to better serve our students and families:

● Page 6: ASD is committed to being as transparent and communicative as possible. It is critical that our families stay engaged with our schools so we can share important information in the event of an emergency, as well as provide regular updates about what is happening in your school community.
Page 22: Connecting parents directly with their child’s grades and attendance
information has never been easier! This page now has detailed instructions (under Student Information System) on how to set up an account in our Sapphire Parent / Community Portal.
Policy Updates (pages 23-34): As outlined in our Strategic Framework and to improve governance and leadership processes, the district continues to review and update district policies. This past year, the focus has been on updating those policies that are specific to student-related services and to the impact of day-to-day student experiences.
