ASD Superintendent Parker Accepts Excellence in Business Award

ASD Superintendent Parker Accepts Excellence in Business Award
Posted on 11/19/2020

On November 19, Superintendent Thomas Parker accepted the 2020 Excellence in Business Award. Awarded by the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Council, the honor recognizes the superintendent’s leadership and the Allentown School District’s resilience and perseverance in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.

A key factor toward this recognition has been the ASD Board of School Directors’ approval of purchasing Chromebook laptops and 4,500 mobile hotspots to ensure all students have equitable access to high-quality online instruction. The district has also continued to provide free breakfast and lunch meals, even during the summer months. Since September alone, ASD has distributed more than 200,000 meals!

In the November 2020 edition of Connections Magazine, the GLVCC writes: “During these uncertain times, Mr. Parker has demonstrated fortitude, thoughtfulness, and courage. He has established the qualities of inclusiveness, collaboration, and improved transparency as new norms within the Allentown School District.”

Mr. Parker was nominated by members of the Lehigh Valley and Chamber of Commerce community. In lieu of an in-person event, recipients were recognized through an Excellence in Business Facebook event earlier this month and through the Chamber’s Annual Meeting Virtual Experience on November 19, with a special award segment honoring this year's winners.

The district would like to thank all our teachers, staff, families, and community members for their assistance and support over the past several months. By working together, ASD has been able to navigate the many challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has presented.
