ASD Congratulates Dr. Ferdinand Surita, named one of the POWER 100 Who’s Who in Latino Pennsylvania

ASD would like to congratulate team member Dr. Ferdinand Surita, who was named one of the POWER 100 Who’s Who in Latino Pennsylvania at the PA Latino Convention earlier this month.
The POWER 100 Who’s Who is an initiative of the Pennsylvania Latino Convention to immortalize Latino legacy and highlight Latino contributions to the social, cultural, and professional fabric of the state. PALC will publish a compendium of the stories of these remarkable individuals. Dr. Surita was recognized in the category of Education/Research and Academia, along with only nine other individuals in this field who make a lasting impact on youth.
Dr. Surita is a pillar of the community in ASD; he began his career working as a learning support teacher at William Allen High School. He has also held several administrative roles, and currently works as an ESL teacher at the district’s William Penn Building for Alternative Education. Dr. Surita also serves as an adjunct instructor in the faculty at Northampton Community College, and has taught Education courses at Desales University, as well. In ASD, he was the founder and former advisor of the Latino Leadership Club, and created a mentoring program called “Common Ground,” an academic recovery program.
Dr. Surita earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from St. John's University. He has earned two Master's degrees: a Master’s degree at DeSales University in Special Education and ESL Program Specialist; and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and K-12 Principal Certification at Lehigh University. Dr. Surita recently received a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Immaculata University.
“Dr. Surita has had a positive impact on many students in Allentown; he views every student as an individual who is eager to gain knowledge and become successful,” said Dr. John Stanford, ASD Superintendent. “He firmly believes that every child has many talents, and that educators hold the responsibility for creating the atmosphere in which every student can flourish, and we congratulate him on this recognition!”
