ASD Shares Health & Safety Plan for 2021-22 School Year
Posted on 07/22/2021

The Allentown School District is planning to begin the 2021-22 school year with full-time in-person learning across all grade levels. At the same time, the district will offer a fully online option through Virtual Campus for students whose families request it.

Beginning with the announcement made this evening, in the coming weeks all staff, families, and community partners will receive updated information on all ASD COVID 19 prevention and mitigation strategies. The full plan is available here and embedded below.

As we plan for the start of the school year, our top priority is to provide a safe and healthy environment for our students, staff and families. None of the decisions within the Health and Safety plan were made lightly. In fact, a city-wide collaboration with healthcare providers, and the continuous review of positivity numbers by zip codes and wards within the city limits, all influenced the prevention and mitigation strategies the District will rely on as we open our schools at full capacity.

ASD will implement a number of evidence-based mitigation strategies throughout its buildings this school year, including but not limited to:

  • Use of ASD COVID-19 screener tools
  • Universal masking
  • Frequent hand washing and use of CDC recommended hand sanitizer
  • CDC recommended facilities and building ventilation and cleaning practices

To inform and engage all stakeholders, the district will continue direct communication and outreach to our staff, students, and families. ASD encourages families to continue use the Let’s Talk communication tool on their website to get questions answered during this time.

“We look forward to welcoming all of our students and staff back to our building in September,” said Nancy Wilt, Board President. “On behalf of the School Board of Directors, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all staff, students, and families for your patience and flexibility as we prepare for a new normal.”
